Before the case had gotten to this point, although we differed in opinion, Sarah and I had expressed our views in response to an earlier question about the Lance Armstrong case. All of that is still true, particularly about the fact that it’s part of a wider conspiracy, it’s not just one man. I feel the whole “witch hunt” angle and courting public opinion sometimes obscures the fact that the UCI, who govern the sport we love, had a very big role in all of this and indeed still do. Pat McQuaid was trying to muddy the waters further in this case as recently as two weeks ago. That’s bothersome to me.
Lance losing his titles? So be it. Doping should have consequences.
I’m not sure where the case goes from here, if Lance not fighting the charges can lessen the damage control or whether details from the case, including the ex-teammates’ testimonies will emerge or be buried.
